Ours started with a decision to build a different kind of life. After successful careers at Westar Energy, Mike and Melissa Coburn found themselves rethinking what mattered most when family health challenges changed their perspective in 2019. They wanted more than promotions and meetings—they wanted to build something meaningful together. Something where people came first.

So in January 2020, they took a leap of faith and purchased the Squeegee Squad franchise for Kansas Central. On day one, the company consisted of Melissa and one technician cleaning windows throughout Northeast Kansas. There was no large staff. No fleet of trucks. Just a commitment to show up, work hard, treat customers honestly, and earn every opportunity to come back.

That philosophy hasn’t changed. As homeowners began recommending us to neighbors and businesses started trusting us with larger projects, our team grew one employee, one customer, and one relationship at a time.

We even shared that journey on a business podcast, talking about our philosophy of “Firing Ourselves Fast”—building systems and empowering our team so the business can grow without depending on one person to do everything.

Rooted in Our Community

We’re proud to call Topeka home. Both Mike and Melissa graduated from local colleges and raised their kids in the area. We are members of the Topeka Facility Management Association, the Topeka Area Builders Association, the Flint Hills Builders Association, the Greater Topeka Partnership, and have served on many local Boards. Mike has taught Junior Achievement for many years now, and Melissa was formerly a Big Sister for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

We’re involved in our community not because it looks good—we genuinely enjoy it.

We’re honored to be a business partner of the Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center. In 2025, our team had the privilege of designing, planning, installing, managing volunteer activities for, and powering the Zoo Lights program. We installed over 28 miles of lights in over 80 trees, which is about 63 houses of power. It was our 5th year helping with this event, and it became the highest-grossing Zoo Lights event in the program’s history.
