Enjoying your screened porch or three-season room is easy here in North Carolina. After all, our mild climate means we can enjoy these spaces for much of the year. But your porch is far more inviting when the vinyl windows are clear and free of pollen, dirt, and grime.
Unfortunately, screened porch cleaning can be a time-consuming chore. Removing, cleaning, conditioning, and reinstalling all those vinyl windows can take several hours—especially when you have a large porch or multiple windows.

If you’re ready to tackle the job yourself, these tips can make cleaning your vinyl or EZE-Breeze windows a little easier.
1. Know What Brand of Windows You Have
Before you start, make sure you know what brand of windows are installed on your screened porch. Some vinyl porch windows are easier to remove and reinstall than others.
It’s also important to determine whether the windows need to be returned in a specific order or simply placed back into a particular track. We frequently see EZE-Breeze windows, but other brands are becoming increasingly common as well, including:
Knowing how your windows work before you start removing them can save you a lot of frustration later.
2. Gather Your Cleaning Supplies
A little preparation can make your screened porch cleaning project much easier.
Gather everything you’ll need before you begin, including:
Having your supplies nearby means you won’t have to stop halfway through the job to search for something you need.
3. Put on Some Music
This might not technically be a cleaning tip, but it can make a big difference!
Pulling out, cleaning, conditioning, and reinstalling every window on a screened porch is a hassle. Put on some music, your favorite podcast, or whatever helps you get in the groove.
A little entertainment can make several hours of screened porch cleaning feel much less tedious.
4. Remove and Clean the Windows One at a Time
When you’re ready to begin, remove each window individually and clean it before setting it aside.
If you have EZE-Breeze windows, it’s a good idea to keep them in the same order as you remove them. We often stack the windows carefully against a wall as we work so they’re ready to go back into the appropriate locations.
Taking a little extra care during removal can make the reinstallation process much easier.
5. Use Mild Soap and Water
When cleaning vinyl porch windows, avoid harsh chemicals that could cloud, discolor, or damage the vinyl.
Instead, use mild soap and water to clean the windows. Murphy’s Oil Soap can also be an option. Gently wipe the vinyl surface as well as the edges of the frames.
Don’t forget about the areas where dirt and pollen tend to accumulate. Thorough cleaning of the window edges, frames, and surrounding surfaces can make a noticeable difference in the appearance of your screened porch.
6. Condition the Vinyl
Cleaning your vinyl windows is only part of the job. Conditioning the vinyl at least once a year can help keep it flexible and looking its best.
North Carolina weather can be tough on vinyl porch windows. Intense Triangle summers and cooler winter temperatures can contribute to the vinyl becoming harder and more brittle over time.
Regular cleaning and proper conditioning can help you get more enjoyment and longevity from your porch windows.
7. Carefully Return Each Window
Once you’ve finished cleaning and conditioning the windows, it’s time to put them back.
If you kept the windows in order, start with the last window you removed and work backward. Depending on the window system, the order may not matter, but it’s important to make sure each window goes into the correct track.
You may need to tilt the window slightly to get it into the track, then lift it as you push it into place. Take your time rather than forcing a window that doesn’t seem to fit.
