Holiday Window Cleaning: Get Your Home Guest-Ready Before Thanksgiving

You’ve deep-cleaned the guest bath. You’ve hidden the junk drawer. You’ve bought the good napkins.

And then your in-law sits down at the dining table, the afternoon sun hits the window, and there it is: every water spot, every dog nose print, every streak from that one time you tried to clean them with paper towels.

Windows are the one thing guests stare at without meaning to. Here’s how to get yours holiday-ready.

1. Clean before the decorations go up

Once the wreaths, window clings and string lights are up, nobody’s getting behind them until January. Clean glass first, decorate second. Lights look twice as bright behind spotless panes.

2. Don’t forget the screens and tracks

The glass gets the attention, but dead bugs in the tracks and dusty screens are what guests notice up close. Vacuum tracks with a crevice tool and wipe them with a damp cloth.

3. Skip the paper towels

Paper towels leave lint and push dirt around. A squeegee and a microfiber cloth for the edges is what pros use, and it’s the reason our glass looks like there’s nothing there.

4. Clean on a cloudy day

Direct sun dries cleaning solution before you can wipe it, which is where streaks come from. Overcast November days are actually ideal.

5. Know when to call it

Second-story windows, a ladder and wet leaves on the ground are a bad combination. If your windows need a ladder, that’s the job to hand off.

The holiday booking crunch is real
