I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way… It’s gonna be a bright, bright sunshiny day.
(Johnny Nash)
It’s easy to fall into an “out of sight, out of mind” approach when it comes to properly caring for anything outside our daily view. The problem is that some of the most important elements of keeping our homes and businesses comfortable and productive are hidden away by design. Air filters, water purifiers, dryer exhaust vents – even the batteries in our smoke detectors – they’re essential to safe, efficient living. Still, when all goes well, we rarely think about them.
Solar panels can be like that. Sure, we feel good when they’re first installed or when we notice them for some reason. We’re saving money, and we hope we’re doing our part to save the planet – or at least look like responsible community members. Beyond that, however, we don’t often have to think about them. Most of the time, that’s OK – it means everything’s working and nothing terrible has happened.
Well, nothing immediately noticeable, anyway.
Solar panels, like anything else exposed to the elements 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, get dirty. When it’s warm and dry, dust and grit accumulate. When it rains, evaporation leaves behind a film similar to what you see on your car windshield. Debris gets caught. Birds do what birds do. Over time, your panels become less and less efficient and thus less and less effective.
Because of the natural fluctuation in utility usage and monthly expenses in the best of times, you may not even notice – at least not right away. However, study after study has shown that proper regular solar panel cleaning can increase your efficiency by more than 20%. In the industrial world, that improvement can sometimes top 50%. The severity and pace of such buildup varies with where you’re located, but it happens almost everywhere. The sunnier an area is (and thus, the more likely you are to have solar panels), the more quickly the grime begins hindering your efficiency.
That’s certainly an option, but it’s not always a good one. The most obvious issue is safety. Most workplaces aren’t designed for easy rooftop access or even convenient window-washing. Without the proper training and equipment, you could be looking at serious injury – or worse. Our team at Squeegee Squad has both the training and the equipment to safely and efficiently reach just about any part of your home or business.
Solar panels aren’t particularly fragile, but they can be scratched, broken, or damaged if not treated properly. Any benefit gained by hand washing can quickly be offset by damage to the surface of the panel itself. Our highly trained crews have the tools and expertise to clean your solar panels effectively and safely.
Finally, solar panels aren’t the only thing on your roof, which should be inspected and maintained from time to time. Mold, moss, or debris on your roof can go unnoticed until it becomes a severe problem if not addressed as soon as it appears. Gutters are best cleaned by hand so that they can do their job as well. Winters can bring snow or ice accumulation that dams itself in place and begins eroding your home’s most critical protective layers. Every solar panel cleaning technician is trained to spot small problems before they become big problems.
We get it. One of the purposes of having solar panels in the first place is to reduce costs. None of us want to spend money if we don’t have to.
You might be surprised how affordable it is to partner with Squeegee Squad for your home or business. We’re committed to offering far more value and overall benefit than most customers expect. That approach has kept us growing and setting new precedents in the industry for over a decade, and we’re not about to stop now.
Give us a call, and let’s talk about what we might be able to do for you.
