One way to improve your home is by getting your windows clean. While it’s possible to clean your windows by yourself, there are a number of benefits of hiring professional window cleaners. Some of these benefits include saving time, better quality cleaning, and safety. Once you have decided to get a professional window cleaner there are some things you should do before the window cleaner arrives.
Don’t make it hard to get to the windows. Check the access to your windows by walking through the home. Make sure there is an easy path to get to each of the windows. Keep in mind if you have storage or shelves in front of the window then the job will become harder. Check the windowsills, especially if you are someone that likes to have pictures, plants, or decorative items on the sill. Small furniture should be moved not only to protect it but also to clear the way for the job. The easier it is to reach the widows, the more efficient the whole cleaning process will be. For furniture that isn’t easy to move, window washers will do their best to work around it.
Your window cleaners will be careful and professional but accidents can happen. If you move fragile items out of the way then you can prevent them from getting damaged.
It helps to let other residents of the home know that window washers are coming so that they aren’t in the way. If you have pets then having someone new in the home can make them overly friendly or nervous. It’s a good idea to have your pets out of the home while the window washers are working or to have them in a safe and comfortable place in the home.
Your clean windows can collect the dust that comes off the blinds. If you plan on having a professional wash the insides of your windows then clean and dust the blinds before arrival or ask if that service is included as an add-on service. If you aren’t cleaning the drapes beforehand then be sure that they are pulled up, back, or removed altogether. If you clean the blinds beforehand then you can start using your blinds right away after your windows are cleaned. This way, you don’t have to worry about dust transferring back to the windows and wasting money on window cleaning service.
Professional window washers generally have tall ladders to reach the high outside windows and also access hard-to-reach areas inside. Whether it’s changing light bulbs, cleaning entry chandeliers, or dusting ceiling fans, ask if they can also help with these services since the equipment will already be at your home. If certain items in the home are clean, such as ceiling fans, it can keep your windows cleaner for longer since dust isn’t transferring to the windows.
If you have screens on the outside of the windows then they will usually be dirtier and need some more thorough attention than if they were outside. A thorough process will usually include using a cleaning solution. If the screens are on the inside then it’s possible to clean them with a wet towel and wipe them down. This is also a good time to repair any screens that are ripped.
This task isn’t usually thought of but it helps to check under the eaves in the close proximity of the windows for any bees or hornet nests. It’s best to remove nests or hives before the professionals arrive or at the very least you can warn your pro that the nests are there. If you notice any trees or shrubs growing up against the window then now is a great time to have them cut back.
While this is something out of your control, the process is much easier if the weather is good. You also don’t want to move furniture and prep if the job can’t be done. At Squeegee Squad, windows can be cleaned year-round so you shouldn’t have to worry about inclement weather ruining your plans.
